: Gold. Gold coins. Jewelry. Cash in a checking account that doesn't pay interest. Having more taxes withheld from your paycheck to get a refund on April 15. Money under your mattress or a safety deposit box.

: An asset that does not pay interest. Gold, fine wine, art, vintage cars, furniture, jewellery, watches. Anything except assets like stocks and shares. Anything that does not internally produce a profit (like a business). For example gold does not make an internal profit therefore cannot distribute any profit to the owner.
